This week, BC Law community members can drop off non-perishable items in the Library or Yellow Room to support the Newton Food Pantry (NFP) Drive. Many may not know that food insecurity is an ongoing problem in Newton, and this will continue even after the pandemic eases its grip. During the holiday season, the need for food donations is even more acute, as families strive to make the holidays special for their loved ones.
Some of the items most in need include cereal, shampoo, tuna, hearty soups, and ground coffee. The items you donate will be delivered on Friday to the food pantry. You may also make a donation through Venmo to the Chair of the Law Student Association’s Community Service Committee, @Hunter-Tracey.
The NFP is an independent, all-volunteer pantry which serves more than 220 families a week. Any Newton resident in need can come to the pantry twice a month for fresh and non-perishable food and personal-care products. Last year, the NFP gave out 19,700+ bags to those in need—a dramatic 48% increase over just two years.
