Cover Letters: Create a unique cover letter for each employer that highlights the skills and experience that qualify you for the position and demonstrates genuine interest in the opportunity and organization’s mission. You may find you can reuse portions of your cover letter for each employer but you should look at each cover letter anew with these tips in mind. CSO resourcesPSJD.org resources

Writing Sample: This should be a legal writing sample, for tips and resources see our CSO handout. 1Ls should plan to use the latest draft of their memo ensuring there are no typos.

Unofficial Transcript: Use the CSO unofficial grade sheet. 1Ls can include information from this semester without grades or by including a “TBD” in that column as well as any known courses next semester.

References: Unless specified by the employer, a reference sheet should include 2-3 academic or professional references that are the best references for your relevant skills and interest in the positions you are applying to. Use our CSO handout to format your reference sheet and make sure to let references know you are using them as references and have their preferred contact information for this purpose.
